The science behind the comfortable insole

ROCCAMORE'S INSOLE IS SCIENTIFICALLY VALIDATED

Our insole was invented by Frederikke Antonie Schmidt, a Danish shoe designer, who was very frustrated with always having to choose between comfort and design.

Together with an orthopedic shoemaker, she decided to design and develop an insole that would shape the foot to walk as anatomically correct as possible in high heels.

And so, roccamore was born.

Scientifically validated

Roccamore's sole has been validated by scientific research at Hvidovre Hospital.

"The orthopedic stilettos are built with support in the arch and a small pad that presses up under the forefoot, so that there is a larger contact area under the entire foot. In this way, you distribute your weight and relieve the pressure on, among other things, the forefoot."

- PhD and specialist in orthopedic surgery at Hvidovre Hospital Jeannette Østergaard Penny

The survey in brief

In the fall of 2015, PhD and specialist in orthopaedic surgery at Hvidovre Hospital Jeannette Østergaard Penny tested whether off-the-shelf "orthopaedic" stilettos can reduce forefoot pressure and increase comfort compared to regular stilettos."

The study aimed to investigate whether an orthopaedic stiletto can modulate pressure and comfort under the forefoot, arch and heel 22 women participated.

The conclusion was that off-the-shelf* orthopaedic stilettos with built-in metatarsal pad, arch support and heel cup can lower pressure under the heel and forefoot compared to regular stilettos and can improve comfort during daily wear.

*"Off the shelf" refers to products that are available in the general trade and not custom-made.

HANDMADE IN ITALY

Like the rest of the components, the insole is handmade with the overall priority of ensuring that all roccamore shoes reach our acclaimed level of comfort.

Our models have either a textile or a leather insole. Each has its benefits and reasons why we chose to produce a particular model with it.

CLASSIC LEATHER INSOLE

This is the insole we first started making our shoes with, and can be found in almost all roccamore classics.

Crafted from natural leather, this insole is firm and preserves its shape extremely well. It is less flexible to different foot shapes, but is easy to clean and offers very stable support.

INNOVATIVE TEXTILE INSOLE

Our textile insole is a highly advanced technical woven material. It can be found in many of our newer models.

Made of two complimentary materials, it offers an extra layer for support under the forefoot. This insole adapts very well to the foot's specific curves. It is also fully breathable, making it sweat proof.
